I once had an account with Compuserve. I connected from my Linux System using PPP with these scripts.

cserve

The cserve script establishes a PPP link on the /dev/cua device. PPP calls chat to dial Compuserve.

cis.chat

The chat program is controlled by the script in /etc/ppp/cis.chat

The AT commands set up my USRobotics Sportster 14,400 Fax Modem. The ATD command dials Compuserve. You will have to replace hostname and password with your own values. Once chat has logged in, it starts the remote PPP daemon.
